** The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein…Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. … Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah** Psalm 24: 1,8,10
We have looked at the diligent, kind and generous care that our Good Shepherd shows from day to day to his beloved sheep in Psalm 23. We lack nothing good or essential, He gives us rest, He teaches us do to right. He walks along side us on our days of darkness, pain and loss. He calls us to serve him, his gifts are overflowing, He is merciful, and promises us an eternal home in his presence.
Our Psalm for today takes us a bit farther in our knowledge of all that the LORD does for us, revealing more of what is waiting for us on the other side of eternity. It speaks of the power and glory and strength of our Lord and Savior.
It speaks of how He goes to battle for us today and will again in the future.
He will fight as a furious king , as our hero, a warrior prepared to vanquish evil and rebellion. He will conquer all of his and our enemies in this life and beyond.
That is why we can walk with our heads and hearts held high on our difficult days, because we will be with him on that day of battle as part of his victorious army and He is already our Conquering King.
So, whatever battles are raging in your life today, remember that Jesus is the ultimate Victor. We may lose a few feet of ground today, but the story is not over. There is still coming a day when good wins over evil, light over darkness, strength over weakness.
We have much more than the Shepherd of Psalm 23, that is tender, caring and faithful, we also have a Conquering King who loves us and fears no one or anything.
