A Sure Hope

** The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate. ** Psalm 34:22

David’s conclusion to Psalm 34 is hope. A sure hope. A without a doubt hope. An absolute promise.

** The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants:**

To redeem means a few important, really important things.

It means to sever, to cut us off from who and what we used to be or to release us or deliver us from the eternal punishment for what we did or do or will do. Those that are righteous because of Christ’s death on the cross will NEVER have to face God with shame and terror.

It means that one day God looked at us with disappoint and heartache for what we had become and now he ‘deems’ (thinks of) us as something beautiful and pure and joyfully calls us His own. He deemed us evil and now He has changed His mind because of what we have decided about Christ.

To redeem means to buy back. To rescue from captivity and bondage. To liberate from captivity or bondage, or from any obligation or liability to suffer— by paying the equivalent.

Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin in full on the cross of Calvary !!!!

And He has regained possession of us who were alienated from His Holiness, grace and mercy. He rescued us from eternal death. He saved us from the penalty that we deserve for our sinful thoughts and actions and attitudes and rebellion against His Law and His Holiness.

** And none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate. **

Remember desolate from the last post?

Emptiness, loneliness, desert, laid waste, in a ruinous condition, destroyed, completely and utterly alone, without comfort….ever.

NONE OF THEM….shall be desolate….NONE OF THEM….David is talking about the souls of Christ’s servants.

None of us who trust in Christ’s payment for our sin will EVER be desolate.

Because the LORD GOD, The FATHER, The HOLY SPIRIT, His angels, His PRESENCE, His COMFORT, His GRACE and His rich, rich MERCY are ALL and ALWAYS with us today and tomorrow and will be with us forever. For all eternity.

That is why David began this Psalm with…

** I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. **

We can and should bless the Lord because He has given us a sure hope. David knew it. Do we?
