**She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.** Proverbs 31:12
In Genesis God says to Abraham….**And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, **.
God is our example of what is good. ** Every good gift…cometh down from the Father of Lights.**
**And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.** Deuteronomy 6:24
God teaches us by example to be good and all that He teaches us is for our good.
Life and decisions should not be determined by what seems good to us, but what God says is good. We need to be careful about our opinions, our actions, and reactions and our emotions. They should all be filtered through God’s perspective. Because doing and being God’s way brings more good into our lives.
**On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the Lord had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people. ** 1 Kings 8:66
“Doing good” is a great study and so worth the time to dig in and find the Lord’s opinion on what is good and what is evil. When we talk about our marriage or any relationship, we have a wealth of information and guidance on how to make them healthier and happier.
Here are a few from the Psalms, Proverbs and the New Testament.
**Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.** Psalm 34:14
**Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.** Psalm 37:3
**Because thy mercy is good** Psalm 109:21
**Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.**Proverb 3:27
**A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.** Proverb 17:22
** But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;** Matthew 5:44
**His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: ** Matthew 25:21
He that doeth good is of God: 3 John 1:11
So, Bathsheba tells Solomon that a virtuous woman does good to her husband all the days of her life. All of these verses give us some ideas of what that means. The Psalms, Proverbs and all of the New Testament give us a lot of tips on how to do good to others. The ones I have given tell us that good is from God, so we can go to the source and learn more from him.
Also, today’s verses tell us that we should be peacemakers, and that we should stop doing evil. Like what?….maybe stop complaining to others about our husband’s shortcomings? Maybe not slamming him with all of our problems of the day at him as he walks in the door? Maybe get creative at how to get some positive and peaceful conversations going?
How about Mercy? my favorite subject. Can we learn to forgive a little faster and a bit more sincerely when our husband’s make a mistake? Can we give them a break for being human and being male? They are NOT like us and we shouldn’t try to make them like us, right?
Can we grow in our trust in God that He is working in our husbands, his way and in his time, not ours?
Maybe we could find little ways that make him happy, but not necessarily make us happy? Is our house decorated the way he would like it, or does he wear the clothes he likes and not what we like? Is our husband able to be true to himself or do we make him a male copy of us?
A merry heart….are we merry? a merry heart heals. Is our marriage sick because of our hearts?
We could talk about good all day. 3 John tells us that when we do good it is known of us. I wonder what our husbands would say if we asked him how we show him good. It’s something to think about.
