**Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. ** Leviticus 19:18
**Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. **Proverbs 10:12
If there is one thing we all learn in life it is that no one is perfect. We all make mistakes. We are all fallible. Each of us has done something that we regret or said something we want to take back.
We lose our tempers, we argue instead of speaking calmly, we make mountains out of molehills, we strain at gnats. It’s in our nature. We all swim in the same cesspool.
What we all wish we would do is let things roll off our back, learn how to chill, and give the other guy a break. More than that, don’t we all wish that others would do that for us?
Don’t we wish that people would be more patient with our lack of good communication skills? Don’t we want them to overlook our messy days? Be patient with our roller coaster emotions?
In general, don’t we want them to cut us some slack just like we do for them?
The answer to all of these questions is…
Of course!!!
The good news is that Someone has already done all of this for us. And we all know who He is. One of His very reasons for existing is to forgive, to offer second chances, to wipe the slate clean every morning and for all eternity!
Again, He sets the example, and it’s our turn to try to follow it and imitate it.
Because True Love forgives, it doesn’t hold a grudge, it doesn’t pretend that we have it all figured out or that we are perfect or superior to others.
True Love forces us to be honest with ourselves and make peace with others.
