**Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. ** Psalm 100:4
** …speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; ** Ephesians 5:19
** And they sang the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying , Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. ** Revelation 15:3
In Scripture, singing appears in times of praise, celebration, battle, teachings and admonishments and in times of comfort. Singing is a part of history, the present and our future.
The Israelites sang praises about victories over their enemies by the Hand of God.
The armies of Israel sang and blew their trumpets before a battle and defeated their enemies before they ever lifted their swords. Their praise and faith gave them the victory.
David and Solomon wrote over a thousand songs of praise and thanks regarding the great things that God had done for them and for their nation.
Singing is individual and it is for the masses.
**But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night ** Job 35:10
Singing is for the brightness of day and for the darkness of night. It is for good days and bad days. For victory or for defeat. Because songs of praise are not about us, they are about Him.
Singing is for us to release tension, to narrow our focus and get us back on track, to remember the good that we have right now, to remember what the Lord has promised for our tomorrow. It is a way to celebrate the beauty of His holiness and the intimacy of our relationship with Him.
Singing is going to be a big part of our time in eternity in Heaven. Singing will and does take away the pain and hurt and heartache of living in a fallen world.
** and the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.** Isaiah 35:10
We will be singing about Jesus. We will be singing about eternal salvation. We will be singing about His Holiness. We will be singing about His Kingdom.
And then Jesus will start to sing over us.
**The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.** Zephaniah 3:17
Yes, Jesus is going to join us in song. But not just for what He has done for us, but He will be singing for the joy of having a family that loves Him, that were true to Him, that didn’t give up when things got tough. He will sing over us to fill us with even more joy. He will be celebrating our faith. Faith that kept us ever seeking Him while still on earth.
All the battles will be over. The battle for our souls. The battle over our sin. The battle against darkness trying to take us back. The battle for our testimony. The battle against our ego and our rebellion against what He tried to teach us from day to day.
**…he will REST in his love, he will JOY over thee with singing. **
The Heavenly Choir is going to be amazing. We will shake the universe and beyond with our voices.
And then He will sing over us. And we will bow down and worship Him for ever and ever and ever.
