**Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. ** Proverbs 3:5
Today, we are going to begin our day-to-day look into what it means to trust in the Lord with all our heart and what it means to have a Trust Fund from the Lord.
According to Forbes.com/advisor, a trust fund is a legal entity that holds assets until an intended recipient is able to receive them. This may be when the recipient reaches a certain age or after the previous owner of the assets has died. In simpler terms, this means that there is an official account that holds all of the funds or benefits to be received until the appointed time.
So, using this definition we could look at the Lord’s Trust Fund for all of His children this way….
God has made an official pact with each of His children that He will hold all of our eternal assets until we are able to receive them. Some of this Trust Fund may be distributed to us at a certain time or during a certain situation in our lives and some of it will be reserved for when our life on earth has ended and our eternal one has begun. All of these Special Funds were deposited in our name when the Lord Himself died (the previous owner of the assets). Now, the distributing of the Funds will take place at an appointed time.
It is up to each individual child of God to believe with all their heart that this is true. Paul the apostle said in 2 Timothy 1:12 **For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. ** Paul was convinced with all his heart that what the Lord had promised him would come true. He suffered the trials of this life with the assurance that his Trust Fund was there waiting for him in eternity.
Proverbs 3 is a very well known chapter of the Bible and verse 5 is one of the most quoted from this popular chapter. The Lord and Solomon and many of our own friends use this verse to challenge us to trust the Lord when life gets confusing or frightening. It challenges us to not allow our circumstances to make us lose sight of the treasures and fulfilled promises that are waiting for us in Heaven. (God’s Trust Fund for us)
When we trust someone, we are saying that we believe what they told us and their ability to perform their promise to us. Trusting in the Lord is knowing that the Lord will complete His Word and His promises. We trust that He will not deceive us.
But we all know that the enemy will use every trial and problem to try to wear away at our trust level. (See 2 Kings 18 regarding King Hezekiah) Our own flesh can also overpower our level of trusting in the Lord, and the words and actions of others can make us doubt that we have put our trust in the right place. We all go through seasons when we have a high level of belief that the Lord knows how to deliver us out of our problems, but we may not be so trusting that He is doing it within the right amount of time or that it is having the “right” outcome. Most of us have a good handle on believing God, but we all struggle with the trusting half of faith. We know He can, but we are not so crazy about Him not consulting us on the how and when.
On Job’s worse day he proclaims ** Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: ** (13:15) but if we read the Book of Job carefully, we will see that he has some not-so-trusting comments to make about how and what the Lord has done with his family, his finances and his health. The BIG THREE! Aren’t they the hardest trials to face? A broken down car is frustrating, but it doesn’t test the depth of our trust level like the death of a loved one or financial ruin or the sudden news of having cancer.
So, we will be exploring these two main thoughts concerning our Trust Fund from the Lord over the next couple of weeks. Let’s take some extra time to examine ourselves and ask the Lord to help us to be open to learn something new about this Fund and what responsibilities we might have concerning it and that He would help us to be worthy of all that He entrusts to us.
And by the time we have finished this study, we will all be able to say that we have truly learned to **Trust in the Lord with all our hearts…
