Look Up!!

** The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. ** Psalm 50:1

Temporal life can wear us down and fool us into believing that this little world and this life is all there is. It can feed discouragement and disappointment and steal our hopes and dreams. Our day to day problems can consume us and direct our focus onto things that really only exist for a blink of an eye. Today’s problems are here and then they are not. Tomorrow will bring a new set of troubles and today’s may not even be remembered once the new ones dawn in our lives.

It is human and normal to get wrapped up in today’s stress, headaches and frustrations. The problems in front of us can consume our time and energy. But there is a way out of all of that tension.

All we have to do is look up.

Colossians tells us ** to set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth.** We need to look up. We need to look higher than this moment. We need to look up, above ourselves and our little troubled world and look at the source of all good things. And we need to remember what God is capable of.

* * The mighty God, even the LORD…** Who is He? Can we describe Him? What is keeping us from looking at Him and finding the help to solve our problems or the grace to bear them? We need to stop, lift our spirtual heads and remember. We can stop looking at our unsolved problems and our endless pain and look up at the One with whom nothing is impossible.

With the new school year beginning, our Sunday School classes are going to learn about Creation. Preparing the lessons has been a season of looking up at the Creator of all good things for me. Taking some time to remember what He did thousands of years ago, without computers or any artificial intelligence, and without Elon Musk or any of today’s world leaders will help to take our eyes and our hearts off this very insignificant world in comparison.

Genesis tells us that God created all that we see and know out of nothing. There was only darkness and a great void. God thought and everything began to change. He spoke light into existence. Not the sun. Just light. Brilliance, beauty, the starting point of all life. Light came to us in Chapter 1 of His Word and we understand why it came in 1 John, near the end of the Book. This Light that prepared the way for us to walk and have fellowship with Him. His plan is light years ahead of what we even know we need. Way before man was even created, God created the ingredients for us to know Him and walk with Him to walk well with others. Because if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship and are cleansed. Not by the sun, not in the great outdoors, just light. The light of His Word. The light of Jesus Christ. Light. God’s preparation for all of mankind. And God saw the light, that it was good.

If our today, or our week, or month or our year has been a constant battle with darkness, problems and trouble, it is time to look up and see the Light of His countenance. To seek His wisdom and His power. We need to recognize His Sovereignty and His ability to change darkness and voids into something bright and beautiful. We need to connect with the Light of His Word and find a way out of our dark problems.

Whatever our difficulties, God already knows the answer to them and has given us all the tools necessary to show us a way out of them. Starting with the brightest Light to shine into our darkest moments.

All we need to do is look up!!
